When you set up a new phone, this feature is active, but you must activate it before setting up one new phone.
You can still activate and use the Apple Stolen Device Protection feature on your iOS device if your device is not very new.

- Stable Internet connection
- Enable Location Services
- iOS or macOS compatible version
- With Apple ID two-factor authentication.
Method 1: Internet Connection Troubleshoot
To work the location tracking feature, your iOS device must be connected to an active internet and stable. That can be either Wi-Fi or cellular data.
Method 2: Enable Location Services
If you want the Stolen Device Protection to find your lost phone, you’ll have to enable Location Services.
Follow the steps to turn on your location:
- Click on Settings, Privacy & Security.
- Go to Location Services, then turn Location Services to ON.
Method 3: Go to Enable Two-Factor Authentication
For an additional level of security, it’s good to have two-factor authentication on your Apple ID.
Follow the steps to turn on two-factor authentication:
- Go to Settings, and go to your profile.
- Select Sign-In & Security.
- Select Turn on Two Factor Authentication, then select Continue.
- Enter your phone number and press Next.
- Put the code you receive through SMS in.
Is Apple Able to Track an Open Stolen iPhone?
If your iPhone device has been opened and the application enabled: Find My Feature has been opened, yes Apple can track the stolen devices.
But if the iPhone hasn’t been opened or signed into and it gets stolen, Apple services can’t track the stolen phone.
