Knowing that your Facebook is in the hands of a hacker is stressful. But it becomes even more concerning when you find out the hacker has further deleted your account. Should you have deleted any files during the last 30 days, all hope is not yet lost. Sadly, when this happens, your account is deleted permanently by Facebook, and you’re back to zero. This guide tells you how to recover and keep your account safe.

Make Sure Your Account Doesn’t Get Deleted

While we’re discussing how to fix your account, it’s also essential to see how you can secure it ahead of time: Send a copy of your Facebook information to yourself occasionally. It helps protect your photos, posts, and contacts if there’s an issue. Set up 2FA and keep checking your privacy and security settings periodically. Don’t use the auto-login feature when using a device others might access. Strengthen your linked Instagram account with tough passwords and use 2FA as well. Ensure your phone number and address are current with Facebook to get alerts about unexpected events.

Make Sure Your Account Has Not Been Hacked

When you notice anything suspicious on your account, look at your email inbox for updates from Facebook about your account. If you’ve received a warning, click the link “Secure Your Account” in the email to start fixing your account. If managing your emails can no longer accomplish your needs, proceed to the next stage of recovery.

What to Do if Your Facebook Has Been Deleted

Due to a Hack, Passworks remains: No Changes to Password or Email. If the account was taken, but the hacker didn’t change how you log in, you can visit the website at Facebook.com or use the Facebook app. Enter your standard email and password to gain access to the platform. When your account is reactivated, click Cancel Deletion. Facebook places deleted accounts into a 30-day holding period before permanently removing them.

Scenario 2: You Forgot Your Password

But Your Email Did Not Change. If you can access your email but can’t remember your new password, visit the Facebook site by typing https://www.facebook.com into your web browser. Click on the link Forgot Password. Pick the email to which you want the verification code sent. Type the code you received, enter your new password, and click Continue. If your account is deleted, Facebook will inform you and let you cancel the Deletion.

You can’t Access Your Email, but let’s say the hacker swaps out your email.

But leaves your password untouched: Log in using your previous password to see what happens. If your account is approved, use the instructions to cancel the account deletion. Even after you try the password, you still get the message: Click on the link Forgot Password. Scroll to and select Confirm if your phone number is on file. Use the verification code, change your password, and hit Cancel Deletion.

When I do everything on a mobile device

The email and password need to be updated. On mobile phones, enter the Android or iPhone settings. Go to the Facebook app on your phone. Click on Find Your Account. Choose Confirm via SMS, after which you need to tap on Continue. Did you receive a text with a verification code? Enter that code into the login page. Make a fresh password for yourself. Hit Get Started and then press Yes, Continue to Facebook to avoid the deletion. If everything else fails, you should report the account to Facebook. Should nothing from above do the job, visit the Hacked Account page on Facebook and proceed to report your account. Take steps to secure your Facebook account from now on. After returning to your account, you should make it secure: When making your password, include uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Turn on two-factor authentication. Replace the email you use to log in for more safety. Check the devices used to log in to your account and delete any you don’t recognize.
