How to Jailbreak Roku
Jailbreaking your Roku? Yes, you read that right! It can open up a whole different world of streaming. In the further part of this article, let’s find out how is Jailbroken a Roku TV.
Can a Roku be Jailbroken?
No. Due to Roku OS being closed system software, you cannot fragile any Roku device (such as Roku TV or streaming devices). While workarounds are available to you to not jailbreak, this can only ensure that you’re only utilizing limited functionalities. Let’s go through the methods.
Method 1: Screen Mirroring
You will either need an Android Smartphone or a Windows Computer. So this will let you access media to your Roku TV from your one device. Remembering that you won’t be able to use your device while screen mirroring it on the TV is advised. These are the steps on how to enable screen mirroring:
- Shift to System on settings, on your Roku device.
- Therefore from there and the choices choose the Screen mirroring option.
- In Screen mirroring mode Select Prompt among others.
- On the Windows PC now, open Settings and choose Devices.
- Choose Add Bluetooth or another device.
- Then choose Wireless display or dock.
- Type in Select Roku.
- After you’re connected, click Done and select Allow on the Roku device.
Method 2: Screen Casting
However, not all compatible applications will be able to screencast. Casting is not supported by Kodi. Content is compatible with Netflix and YouTube casting, but with no top menu, no status bar, and pretty much just the world’s most boring remote. Let’s take an example of YouTube:
- Select the search bar in the Roku Home and go there.
- Type YouTube in the search bar and choose YouTube from the list.
- Select Add channel.
- Open a YouTube video that you would like to watch.
- Scroll up and select Cast near the top right of the screen.
- From the given list select your Roku device.
Video will be cast on your selected Roku device.
Method 3: Using the Roku Mobile App
Roku is an application by Play on Roku. The app lets you send your content from your smartphone to Roku. Sadly this does not work with Kodi or Netflix, and you can still enjoy plenty of other platforms.
Note: Before starting we want to make sure that both devices are connected to the same network.
- Set the book on the Device and install the Play on Roku mobile app.
- Go into the application using your Roku email and password.
- Go to Devices at the bottom right part of the screen.
- From the list, select what Roku TV or Roku Streaming Stick you want.
- Tap on Media.
After you finish all the steps, select which content you want to play.
Method 4: Using Local Network
They say people who have a local home network can download media. But the way this works is you stream the content from your smartphone via your home network to Roku streaming devices. You need a Roku media player and nothing else to use this method.
- On the Roku home screen click on the search bar.
- In the search bar type Roku Media Player.
- Choose Roku Media Player for the results.
- If you want to see the player on your device, you should select Add Channel.
- Then, go back to the Roku home screen, then launch the media player.
The network should now appear on your Roku streaming device if your local network is accessible by media.
- Now choose what you want to stream on Roku from the media.
